The ultrasonic transducer consists of a plate (1) of piezoelectric ceramic material with a quarter-wave transformation film (2) stuck onto it. The thickness of the plate is less than 1/10th of that of the film which consists of bubbled glass. The plate and film are rigidly stuck onto a vibration coupler embedded in a protective casing using (3) an elastic adhesive layer (5). USE/ADVANTAGE - For generating or detecting ultrasonic waves in gases at frequencies below 200 Hz., esp. for measuring flow speeds of gases in wide tubes. Has improved efficiency and manufacturing and operational economic parameters.
