Signals from wheel speed sensors (1) are processed by a controller (2) which actuates the holding and draining valves (6,7) supplying fluid from the pedal-operated master cylinder (3) to individual wheel brake cylinders (11). The control map (20) stored in the processor takes the form of acceleration-retardation magnitudes and defines the difference between the system speed and its target value. In antilock mode the control map is read or recalled to adjust the brake fluid pressure upwards and downwards as necessary. ADVANTAGE - Timely actuation is guaranteed to avoid vibration in bodywork of vehicle.
