The pipe arrangement has a heating wire (or band or strip) (2) wound around the core (1) of the pipe and designed to carry an electrical heating current. The wire is wound in a helix. The wire may be made by depositing a thin film on the core. A thermally-insulating layer (4) lies between the core and a sheath (3) that encloses the layer (4). The core and the layer are both electrically insulating. The insulating layer (4) may be foam material consisting of tube split into two along its length. The end of the core has an electrical connection (5) connected to the heating strip and provided with a device (17) for connecting an external cable (16) or conductor (which may join two such pipe arrangements).
