A composition for applying trace elements such as iron, zinc, manganese or copper to a soil locus, particularly a basic soil locus is provided. The composition provides the trace element in a form which is suspended or complexed with coal-derived humic acids in an aqueous medium, or captured in or by an oxidised coal, or a mixture thereof.
