The invention relates to a nucleic acid fragment containing a functional sequence of nucleotides contained in a 2.55-kb Sal-SphI fragment obtained from the chromosome of a natural strain of B. subtilis or a strain of B. subtilis carrying a mutation, especially the sac Uh mutation, the said sequence being characterised in that it is capable, when it is introduced into a B. subtilis - or into another microorganism, capable of exploiting to its advantage the information carried by this fragment - of inducing therein an overproduction of proteins or of conferring on it a Sedh phenotype. The invention also relates to a process for stimulating the production of a determined polypeptide by an appropriate microorganism by introducing the abovementioned DNA fragment into the cells of the microorganism whose genome or chromosome has been modified so that it contains a DNA sequence encoding the said determined polypeptide.
