Nucleic acid fragments derived from a genome of an appropriate mycobacterium, especially Mycobacterium tuberculosis, their applications in the diagnosis of infections caused by mycobacteria, as well as plasmids containing the said fragments. The nucleotide sequence consists of a nucleotide sequence repeated in the genome of a bacterium and specific for the group of tubercle bacillus and in that it hybridises very strongly with M. tuberculosis.
