PURPOSE:To provide the subject monoclonal antibody having reactivity with either one of antigen-determining groups of human stromulycin without distinguishing the latent stromulycin from the active stromulycin, and useful for diagnosing chronic articular rheumatism, etc. CONSTITUTION:The synovial cells of a chronic articular rheumatism patient are taken out and cultured. The cultured product is subjected to a chromatography, etc., to purify human stromulycin. The purified human stromulycin is administered into a Balb/c mouse for the immunization thereof, and after the final immunization the splenic cells are collected from the mouse, fused with the myeloma cells of a mouse and subsequently cultured in a HAT medium to produce hybridomas. The hybridomas are screened to select a human stromulycin-resistant antibody-producing clone. The clone is cloned by a limiting dilution analysis to obtain a monoclonal hybridoma, which is cultured to provide the objective monoclonal antibody which reacts with both the latent stromulycin and the active stromulycin without distinguishing from each other.
