PURPOSE: To attain a variable-length main storage string operation under the control of a single control word. CONSTITUTION: Registers 105 and 106 are initialized by the first byte of a data string to be processed (a). When only one operand is included, the register 105 is initialized. RAM 115 and 116 are initialized by the address of a main storage location where the data of the registers 105 and 106 are taken out (b). SDR pointers 125 and 126 are initialized by the byte location of a first SDR byte to be computed (in an SDR register) (c). Whole sequencer operations are divided into further smaller operations under the control of an applied control word, moved from the SDR 105 and 106 through aligners 135 and 136, processed by an ALU 110, and returned to the SDR 105 and 106.
