PURPOSE:To produce the LB film for nonlinear optical elements in a short period of time with a simple device mechanism by accumulating the monomolecular films formed by developing the amphiphatic molecules of a specific compd. on a water surface and compressing these molecules. CONSTITUTION:Water 2 is put into a tank 1 and the amphiphatic molecules expressed by formula I (D is an electron-donating group; A is an electron- withdrawing group; R is 10 to 25C long chain aliphat. hydrocarbon group) is developed on this water surface to form the monomolecular film 3. A substrate 4 is vertically moved and a floating plate 5 is horizontally moved by a pulley 6 and a weight 7 to apply the adequate pressure to the film 3, by which the film 3 is stuck to the surface of the substrate 4. The accumulated films 8 are formed on the substrate 4 by repeating such operations. The films are subjected to Y type accumulation or hetero accumulation by a Langmuir-Blodgett's method. The LB film for nonlinear optical elements is thereby produced in a short period of time by the simple device mechanism.
