PURPOSE:To auomatize the start of a temperature examination, to simplify the temperature examination and to prevent the variance from being generated in a measured temperature by detecting a motion of lips by a mouth opening/closing detecting means and detecting an opening/closing state of a mouth. CONSTITUTION:First of all, a person to be measured holds a clinical thermometer, carries it to the vicinity of a mouth by observing visually a collimator 7, and thereafter, when a power source switch 1 is turned on, a READY pilot lamp 5 is turned off. Also, a driving signal is sent to a light emitting part 11 through a drive modulating part 32 from a CPU 25 and light is emitted. Subsequently, an analog switch 23 selects a photodetecting part 12 of a mouth opening/closing detecting means 10, a reflected light is photodetected and signal data is read in and stored. Next, after the READY pilot lamp 5 is turned on, the analog switch 23 selects a reference temperature measuring sensor 13, reference temperature data is read in and a reference temperature is stored and processed. Thereafter, the analog switch 23 selects an infrared-ray sensor 9 side, infrared-ray data is read in, and it is subjected to conversion processing to temperature difference data. Subsequently, from this temperature difference data and reference temperature data, a temperature value of the part to be measured is calculated and stored. Next, a peak holding value of a temperature calculated value is displayed by a display part, and after a prescribed time elapses, the temperature examination is finished by sounding a buzzer 33 for informing the end of the temperature examination.
