PURPOSE:To obtain a metal catalyst material having high activity and strong resistance against formed halide by using either one of Ti, Zr and Nb, an alloy consisting of two kinds of them, either one of Ni and C or an alloy of them. CONSTITUTION:A fluorocarbon decomposing material is obtained using either one of a metal selected from Ti, Zr and Nb, an alloy consisting of two of them or an alloy consisting of 80 atomic % or less of either one of or both of Ni and Co and the remainder of one or more kinds of elements substantially selected from Ti, Zr and Nb. This metal catalyst material has high catalytic activity capable of decomposing fluorocarbon at relatively low temp. and can continue reaction even when it becomes fluoride.
