摘要

PURPOSE:To efficiently remove a surface defect of steel by detecting the surface defect of metallic material to be scarfed on a conveying line, forming an interpolation curve and controlling a scarfing machine based on it. CONSTITUTION:A surface defect detection mechanism 4 and the scarfing machine 15 for removing the defective part are arranged on the upstream side and the downstream side of the conveying line 1 of the metallic material to be scarfed, respectively. The continuous interpolation curve is formed based on defective part positional information from the detection mechanism 4 and the defect is scarfed automatically and continuously while the direction of a scarfing nozzle 16 provided on the scarfing machine 15 being ad justed arbitrarily based on the interpolation curve. Consequently, the defective part (surface defect, etc.) existing in the surface of a cast billet (steel billet) can be scarfed and removed continuously and automatically on the conveying line.
