A cationic surface active conditioning compsn. comprises a H2O dispersible cpd. containing a long chain hydrocarbyl gp. of at least 25C, in a proportion that the deposition of at least one of them on to a fibrous substrate to be conditioned is improved. Mfr. of the compsn. in emulsion form by forming a melt of the fibre conditioning agent and the H2O dispersible cpd. at 70-90 deg.C, with other heat stable lipophilic components of the compsn., if any, heating an aq. medium to 70-90 deg.C, and mixing together the liqs.
