Sewage outflow system with overflow protection - provides automatic selection of solid waste for treatment and water to overflow under extreme conditions

In a sewage system with natural fall the main header (2) directs normal flows into the treatment works (3). A branch from the header runs into an overflow basin. When due to extreme conditions flow exceeds the capacity of the treatment works the sewage is separated (7) upstream of the branch into water and sludge. Under these conditions the sludge remains in the main header to flow to the treatment works and the water is directed to the overflow basin. As a result toxic materials are prevented from entering the overflow environment and thus present a health hazard. The system automatically returns to total flow into the works when conditions return to normal.
