DOSIMETRIC TECHNIQUE FOR STEREOTACTIC RADIOSURGERY

The stereotactic radiosurgery is facilitated by a technique of calculating doses at various points of the body of a patient. In particular the doses are calculated as a relatively high density of points in a grid of fine doses (572) and a relatively low density of points in a grid of coarse doses (580). In this manner, the user can quickly obtain the necessary information concerning the distribution of the radiation dose before implementing a proposed treatment plan. An advantageous technique for locating the intersection between the beam of radiation and the contour patient or other surface is also disclosed. The method is particularly well suited to a particular structure which allows the use of relatively narrow beam widths resulting from great mechanical precision.
