Immobilisation of a biological material in a polyurethane matrix is effected by mixing an aq. soln. or dispersion of the material with an aq. soln. or dispersion of a polyurethane ionomer, and coagulating the mixt. The ionomer is an anionomer contg. 15-300 meq/100g of carboxylate or sulphonate gps., or a cationomer contg. 15-300 meq/100 g of quat. ammonium gps. Coagulation is effected by (a) heating, (b) adding K4Fe(CN)6 in the case of cationomers or metal salts in the case of anionomers, or (c) adding an oppositely charged polyurethane dispersion.
