The biological material is immobilised in a polyurethane matrix by mixing an aqueous solution or dispersion of the biological material with an aqueous polyurethane ionomer dispersion or solution and subsequently coagulating the mixture to give a coagulated polyurethane ionomer and, dispersed therein and immobilised, biological material, especially microorganisms increasing the rate of biotransformations, and the immobilised biological material is used as catalyst for biotransformations.
