The method of locating torpedos passing under or by moving target ships involves detecting an alternating magnetic field (2) emitted by the torpedo (1) using probes (4) surrounding the target ship (3). The path of the torpedo is determined by electronic recording of the probe signals and computer evaluation of their measured signal strengths and the known probe positions.
