The method involves providing the location of a target ship by application of the disturbing noise emitted from the target ship. The driving sound of the target ship is simulated by the emitted noise. The drive noise of the target ship is recorded by transducers, and stored for a predetermined time for subsequent emission. An independent claim is also included for a device for pretending a passive locating sonar device of an attacking torpedo, which comprises a water-borne sound converter arranged on a target ship.
