New complex cpds. have the formula (I): (Rn1Y+)(2(CF3SO3)3 X-) I in which R1 is opt. substd. aryl; Y+ is a halonium-, sulphonium-, ammonium- or phosphonium ion; Z is a boron, aluminium or gallium atom; and X-is a monovalent anion; n = 2 when Y is an halonium ion, n = 3, when Y is a sulphonium ion and n = 4 when Y is an ammonium or phosphonium ion. Pref. X- is a halogen, HSO4- or CF3SO3- anion and Z is a boron atom. Cpds. (I) are produced by mixing Z(CF3SO3)3 with equimolar amts. of an onium salt Rn1Y+X-, opt. in an organic solvent, or in a cpd. which is cationically hardenable by cpd. (I).
