The process comprises reaction of trifluoromethane sulphonate acid with 3-trimethylsilyl-2-oxazolidinone at 20-60 deg.C for 15-30 mins., with distn. of the prod. at reduced pressure to separate the sulphonate. The prod. can also be diluted in a solvent such as dichloromethane, to give a soln. contg. the sulphonate, which is also sepd. by low-pressure distn..S Products are used in the synthesis of nucleosidic cpds. of pyrimidine, pyridine, etc..
