The solar cell assembly consists of a rigid field of straight current conductors and a uniform distribution of solar cells, with individual cells suspended from the current conductor pairs via flexible leads, providing electric connections. Pref. the individual solar cells are mechanically stiffened and protected against ambient influence. The stiffening may be formed by laminations, or by plastics encapsulation. The latter may be formed by injection moulding, or by immersion coating. The conductor field may consist of tensioned, flexible current conductors, mutually parallel in a single plane. ADVANTAGE - Simple, low-cost design, mechanical stability, and weather protection.
