The appts. to trap and position a yarn automatically, on an automatic bobbin doffin action at a spinner, has catch units (1, 2) moving against each other in the zone where the yarns (15, 15') are to be wound together by compressed air. Each catch unit (1, 2) has an inner and an outer catch surface (14) to run at an acute angle to each other in the catch direction. The inner catch surfaces of two neighbouring catch units (1, 2) form an active catch zone (A) between them for the first yarn (15), and similarly the outer catch surfaces (14) of adjacent units (1, 2) form an active catch zone for the delayed yarn (15'). The size of the active catch zones (A) is continuously altered and adjusted through the position of two neighbouring units (1, 2). ADVANTAGE - The mechanism ensures that the delayed yarn is safely caught and accurately positioned at the compressed air jet, for the two yarns to be wound together from the old bobbin and the new bobbin.
