The technique to carry a continuous length of waste yarn (10) to a collection container at a textile machine, particularly when cut from a bobbin sleeve on bobbin doffing at a bobbin winder, pleats the waste yarn (10) into serpentine folds (M) on transfer to the transport unit (5) to be carried to the collection container (12). The waste yarn (10) is compressed, and carried (5) to the container (12), where it is detached pneumatically from the transport unit (5) by a blowing and/or suction action. An Independent claim is included for an assembly to gather and dispose of waste yarn lengths at a bobbin winder. The transport unit (5) has a continuous belt drive with carrier units (7) for the waste yarn (10). The conveyor speed of the continuous belt drive is slower than the delivery speed of the waste yarn (10), to form it into serpentine pleats. The gathered waste yarn (10) is detached from the transport unit (5) by a pneumatic unit (15) to be transferred to the collection container (12). A compression zone (D) is at the end section of the continuous belt drive, to compress the waste yarn (10) before it is detached and passed to the container. The carrier units (7) are spindles. The continuous belt drive is a continuous chain (5'), where their separate connecting bolts project between the chain links to form the carrier spindles (7). The compression zone (D) at the end zone of the continuous chain (5') forms an angled plane (14), leading to a horizontal plane (24) over the collection container (12). The transport chain (5') travels on a generally horizontal path. The pneumatic unit (15) to detach the pleated and compressed waste yarn (10) is a diffuser (20), over the end of the angled plane (14). The diffuser (20) is within a housing (22) with a lower side which forms the angled plane (14) and the horizontal plane at the end zone of the transport chain (5'). The housing (22) has a guide channel (23) between the diffuser (20) and the upper level of the transport chain (5'). A control couples together the continuous belt drive and the feed system which moves the waste yarn to the transport unit.
