Quantitative combustion of organic liqs. applied to a specimen carrier, for elemental analysis is carried out by (i) evaporating the volatile liqs. or liq. components at below the combustion temp., (ii) supplying the vapour to a combustion zone by means of an entraining gas stream, (iii) transferring the residual non-evaporated liq. or liq. components together with the specimen carrier by gravity into the combustion zone, and (iv) supplying oxygen to effect combustion. - Equipment for carrying out the process is also claimed.
