A process and plant is claimed for mfg. a panel with thin metal faces and edges and containing an expanded foam. The long edges of both upper and lower sheets are shaped to enable them to interlock with each other. The upper sheet is initially located between the open press platens and one end is attached to the upper platen at the narrow entry end. A profiled tool supports the lower sheet and is used to push the lower sheet between the press platens such that the long edges of both upper and lower sheets engage in close contact with each other. While the lower sheet is pushed into the press, polymer foam is poured continuously onto the centre line of the lower sheet. After completely engaging the edges of both sheets the foam expands to fill the sheets between the now closed press platens. USE/ADVANTAGE - The process and appts. are used to mfr. foamed sandwich panels with metal facings combined with interlocking edges, simplifies the interlocking method and gives uniform foam density over the whole panel.
