An edge protection for light weight boards with sheet metal layers, comprises an extrusion pressed profile (23) with upper and lower grooves (11) which accommodate the bent over edges (24) of the sheet metal (21). The extrusion pressed profile consists of aluminium or one of its alloys, or out of a thermoplastic. The difference in height of the two groove edges corresponds to the sheet metal thickness. The groove depth is slightly greater than the sheet metal to be inserted. The supporting core (22) of the board consists of a thermoplastic, eg PMMA, a thermoplastic polyester, PA, PC, PE, PTFE, PP, POM, PVC, or a mixture of these materials.
