The linear positioning system has a toothed belt loop (5) that carries a support element (3) that moves on a guide rod (6). The support has a stop bolt (4) that is retractable. For coarse linear positioning the support element is moved relative to a detector (2). Fine positioning is provided by a rod (8) that has stops (9) positioned along the length. The positions of the stops can be accurately adjusted by a motor driving a threaded bar (12), with an encoder (13) providing accurate measurement. ADVANTAGE - Preset stops provide accurate positioning.
