A process for obtaining liq. oxygen from stored surrounding air in airborne device, which move at high speed through the atmos. and which use the liq. oxygen as an oxidiser for a propelling unit, includes cooling the air, compressing the air, expanding it, sepg. the oxygen off and using the liq. oxygen for cooling purposes. The nitrogen obtd. at the condenser/separator is passed through a heat exchanger, and a high b.pt. liq. is used for heat transport from the cell and/or from the drive. The nitrogen and/or hydrogen are then passed through further heat exchangers before release. USE/ADVANTAGE - The process, e.g. for use in airbourne component travelling in excess of the speed of sound is efficient and reliable
