The device for holding a slider when doing up a continuous slide fastener chain (F) has a holder (10) which is movable vertically between a lowermost position where the holder holds the slider and a topmost position where the slide fastener chain (1) which is provided with fabric pieces is drawn in through the slider (4). A holder retaining device (16) is provided in the path of the vertical movement of the holder (10) and comprises a U-shaped frame (17) with base (17a) and opposite arms (17b,17b), and a pair of rotatable restraint mechanism (18,18) of which is attached to each of the distal ends of the opposite arms (17b,17b) and which are mounted together in one plane. On occupying the topmost position the slider holder reaches the rear faces of the rotatable restraint mechanisms between the arms.
