Torque distribution controller for rear-wheel-drive vehicle - operates on clutches transmitting torque to respective wheels with suitable differential rotational speed for curve negotiation
Drive is transmitted to the two rear wheels (6R,6L) through separate half shafts (8R,8L) from clutches (7R,7L) with stepping motors (30R,30L). The relative torque is adjusted by a clutch control unit (40) responsive to signals from a steering direction detector (41) and a calculator of necessary differential rotational speed from the measured road speed and radius of curvature. The outer wheel is driven at max. torque for a given differential speed, at which the clutch for the inner wheel is slipped to give the appropriate transmission characteristic. ADVANTAGE - Road-holding improved with stable behaviour on curves at higher speeds.
