Chromatographic analysis of samples in a column chromatograph is carried out by (a) actuating a sampling device (5) by an operation start signal to transfer a known sample into the chromatography (3, 4) for obtaining a chromatogram; (b) locating a peak, corresp. to a component to be measured, on the chromatogram in order to adjust the width of the peak time window; (c) transferring an unknown sample into the chromatograph to obtain a chromatogram; and (d) using the adjusted time window on the unknown sample chromatogram for identification of a component. USE/ADVANTAGE - The process is useful for blood and urine analysis, e.g. for analysis of catecholamines or glycosylated haemoglobin. Sample components can be automatically determined and input of retention times by an operator is not required.
