Torque converter pump impeller - has pretensioned inner shell for ease of impeller assembly and therefore reduced precision manufacture

A pump impeller comprises an outer shell (1) and an inner shell (2) with blades (3) arranged radially in between. Both axial sides of the blade have a contour matching the respective outer and inner side of the inner and outer shells. The inner shell is pretensioned prior to assembly such that both ring contours lie in parallel, axially aligned planes. Upon alignment of the inner shell upon the blades, lying in the outer shell, the radially inner region is in contact with the blades. The radially outer region of the inner shell however has a small separation from the blades. This separation is smaller than its effective elastic deformability, and allows the blades to sit freely on the inner wall of the outer shell, without requiring precise form manufacture.
