The hydrodynamic torque convertor has a driven pump impeller (3) which, by means of a working fluid (4), drives a turbine wheel (5). The working fluid flows through a heat exchanger (12) which removes the heat generated by the operation of the torque converter. The heat exchanger (12) is attached to the housing (2) to which the pump impeller (3) is attached so that the heat exchanger rotates with the pump impeller. The heat exchanger is constructed from radially arranged tubes through which the working medium flows. As the heat exchanger rotates air is forced to circulate around these tubes. USE/ADVANTAGE - Torque converter with inbuilt heat exchanger which eliminates the need for a separate cooling fan.
