In a known process in which water to be treated is held in an activated sludge tank before being clarified, a method is described whereby at least a portion (8) of the mixed liquor in said tank (B2) is passed to a separate fluidized bed (L) provided with solid expanding granulates before being returned to the clarification phase (C). Several embodiments are described.
