METHOD FOR REMOVING FREE CHLORINE AND TRIHALOMETHANE IN WATER

PURPOSE:To effectively remove the materials, such as free chlorine and trihalomethane, in water which are harmful to taste and health lth. CONSTITUTION:A glass tube 2 attached with a diffuser 3, a UV lamp 4 and a stirrer 5 are provided in a reactor 1. The UV lamp 4 is lighted and while the water in the reactor 1 is kept stirred by the stirrer 5, air contg. gaseous ozone is blown through the glass tube 2 into this water and the water is irradiated with UV rays by the UV lamp 4, by which the defective components, such as free chlorine and trihalomethane, contained in the water are decomposed away by the reaction like following chemical formulas 1, 2: [Chemical formula 1] O3+H2O OH+O2, 2OH+CHCl3 CO2+3HCl [Chemical formula 2] 2HClO 2HCl-+O2.
