SHIELD MACHINE STRUCTURE AND METHOD OF CONSTRUCTING SHIELD TUNNEL

PURPOSE: To facilitate and promote a work of construction of a tunnel. ;CONSTITUTION: A child shield 2 is stored in a rotatable spherical body disposed in a parent shield 1 so that it can come out therefrom, and further, a grandchild shield 3.is stored in the child shield 2 so that it can come out therefrom. They are coaxially arranged, and a center cutter having an outer diameter substantially equal to that of the grandchild shield in front of the grandchild shield. An annular intermediate cutter 51 having an outer diameter substantially equal to that of the child shield is removably arranged around the outer periphery of the center cutter, and further, an annular peripheral cutter 52 having an outer diameter substantially equal to that of the parent shield are removably arranged around the outer periphery of the intermediate cutter. After the parent shield is advanced, the center cutter is separated from the intermediate and peripheral cutters, and the grandchild cutter alone is further advanced for excavation. After the completion of excavation, the center cutter of the grandchild shield and the drive device is diverted for the child shield. Further, the spherical body is rotated so as to advance the child shield in a direction substantially perpendicularly to the child shield in order to construct a branch tunnel.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1993,JPO&Japio
