PURPOSE: To obtain a modified solid carrier capable of covalently immobilizing proteins, having increased protein bonding ability and bonding speed and utilizable for an immobilization enzyme, etc., by allowing a matrix material having introduced amino groups to react with trichlorotriazine. ;CONSTITUTION: A matrix polymer such as an acrylamide-glycidyl methacrylate network copolymer is allowed to react with ammonia to convert glycidyl groups in the molecules into α-hydroxy-β-amino groups of formula I. The polymer is then allowed to react successively with 2,4,6-trichloro-s-triazine and ammonia and the resultant amine-substituted product of formula II is allowed to react with at least 2 equiv. 2,4,6-trichloro-s-triazine to obtain the objective solid carrier having many functional groups of formula III [where A is a spacer group, X is O, S or NH and (n) is 0 or 1].
