PURPOSE: To suppress the Marangoni convection on free liquid surface under micro gravity and to prevent crystalline defect or segregation in the case of Bridgman crystal growth in an ampoule for the Bridgman crystal growth. ;CONSTITUTION: Wettability of the inside wall surface 10c of the ampoule 10 for Bridgman crystal growth to the fused liquid 11 is varied from place to place and when whole of the fused liquid of the inside is solidified to become the crystal 12, the inside wall surface 10c of the part L2, which becomes the void 13, is made unwettable to the fused liquid 11 and the inside wall surface 10c of the part L1, which is from the initial crystal growth end 10a to the final crystal growth end 10b, is made wettable to the fused liquid 11, and the free surface F generated by volume shrinkage when the fused liquid 11 is solidified, is generated at the L2 part farthest from the crystal growth part. In this way, the Marangoni convection is suppressed and the crystal having no crystal defect or segregation is grown by preventing forming the free liquid surface F on the crystal boundary P.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1993,JPO&Japio
