The invention concerns a procedure and an arrangement for internal grinding of a roll in a paper machine. In the procedure, the paper-machine roll is rotated with the support of control rolls C, and in which procedure the grinding equipment 10 is brought inside the roll T where it is supported by a mandrel 20. According to the procedure, use is made of such a mandrel 20 which is supported at both ends of the paper-machine roll by bearing pedestals R1,R2. The procedure prescribes the use of such grinding equipment 10, which can be operated on the mandrel 20 which is carried via the paper-machine roll, whereby the grinding equipment 10 comprises a frame 11 to which are connected a slide frame 12 and a contact wheel 13 attached to it. According to the procedure, a fine-feed movement is delivered to the contact wheel 13 and a grinding belt N which is carried over it towards the inner surface of the paper-machine roll through transfer of the slide frame 12.
