A method for disposing oil-containing filter cakes of filtering agents such as kieselguhr and Fuller's earth, used in mechanical rolling oil filtration comprises recovering rolling oil from the filter cake by vacuum drying the cake to vaporise the oil and subsequently condensating the oil vapour. An apparatus for carrying out the method comprises a drying container (1) for the filter cake with a filling neck (2) in an upper wall (4) and an emptying neck (5) in a funnel-shaped bottom wall (7), a combined heating and cooling circuit (8) for the drying container (1), a condenser (10) connected to the drying container (1) through a vapour line (9), a reservoir (11) for collecting oil from the condenser and a vacuum pump (13) connected to the oil reservoir (11) through a suction line (12).
