The broaching machine, in particular a vertical broaching machine, has a tool carriage, which has a rack and is driven by means of a pinion, is guided by guide surfaces and bears broaching tools by means of a tool carrier. To improve the positional fixing of the tool carriage on guide rails and consequently to achieve better machining accuracies, the invention proposes that the pinion (13) engages an area of the tool carriage (7, 7') facing the broaching tools (9, 9'), in which arrangement, with mutually parallel guide surfaces (4V, 6V; 4V', 6V'), in particular the axis (A) of the pinion (13) is at an angle to the said surfaces which is substantially different to 90 degrees.
