This suspension device comprises a hydraulic ram (V1, V2, V3, V4) associated with each of the wheels (A1, A2, A3, A4) of a vehicle and inserted between a wheel arm (B) and the body (C) of the vehicle, the two wheels (A1, A2) of the front axle and one (A3) of the two wheels of the other axle being each fitted with a height adjuster (H1, H2, H3,) and the fourth wheel (A4) being fitted with a slide distributor (10) controlled by the pressures of the four rams (V1, V2, V3, V4), this device being characterised in that the piston of the hydraulic ram associated with each wheel consists of at least one coil spring (R1, R2, R3, R4) which instantaneously absorbs the relatively short clearances of the suspension by bearing on the volume of hydraulic fluid in the ram which behaves as a variable-volume hydraulic shim.
