Recombinant human glutathione peroxidase, a process for preparing the same and a DNA coding the amino acid sequence thereof are disclosed. This enzyme decomposes peroxides such as hydrogen peroxide or lipid peroxides formed in vivo and is therefore expected to be useful in the analysis of lipid peroxides and the treatment and/or prophylaxis of diseases caused by peroxides.
