The mechanism consists of a continuously moving workpiece carrier (10) and a moving workhead carrier (11). A pre-positioning mechanism (13) for one or more components (25) is located between a component parts magazine (12) and the workhead carrier (11). The movement of the pre-positioning mechanism may be synchronised to the movement of the both the workpiece carrier (10) and the workhead carrier (11).
