A vehicle tyre has a carcass inside a rubber layer which provides the tread and this has a pattern of ribs, grooves and/or cuts. The thicker part of the rubber to form the thread has at least one layer which shows up when the tread reaches the safety limit to the wear on its ribs. ADVANTAGE - The design enables the driver to know when the tyre tread has been worn too far and hence requires the tyre to be replaced.
