The electromechanical display element has a module (1) with the main body shaped with a slot (5). The front panel (2) provides a location for a pair of flap elements (9, 10) hinged along a line (8). At the rear of the housing is an electromagnetic actuator (3). When energised the actuator piston rod (7) pulls the flaps back into the slot.
