Deactivated catalysts are regenerated by subjecting their exposed surfaces to an abrasive treatment (pref. a solid particle jet) to remove a thin surface film. Appts. for the process comprises a blower (11) for producing a gas stream, a dosing device (12) for introducing solid particles into the gas stream and a jet system connected to the dosing device for producing one or more particle jets directed into a treatment chamber (13). USE/ADVANTAGE - Esp. to regenerate spent catalysts from de-NOx treatment of flue gases. It exposes fresh active catalytic surfaces and allows repeated regeneration at lower cost than replacement by a new catalyst.
