Prepn. of granulated ammonium sulphate by compacting with a pressing auxiliary or binding agent, comprises addn. of 1-5 wt.% of propene-maleic anhydride copolymer to crystalline ammonium sulphate prior to granulation. USE/ADVANTAGE - Improved storage-, transport- and spreading- properties. The prod. is useful as a fertiliser in agriculture and forestry. Ammonium sulphate is produced as a by-prod. in prodn. of e.g. caprolactom or acrylonitrile and in gas purifcn. The prodn. process does not require the same compacting pressures as prior art processes, and the prod. has improved grain strength, in comparison to the pure salt. The copolymer acts as a conditioner, thus improving the storage properties of the prod.
