Reducing the divergence increases the flux density of the stimulated rare gas atoms at the surface and hence the transfer breadth. The use of atoms with spins different from null makes the device sensitive to the magnetic properties of the surface. USE/ADVANTAGE - Enables combinations of advantageous characteristics to be achieved, e.g. sensitivity to only outermost atom position and magnetic sensitivity, with use of additional properties for contrast formation.
